NSVs

**Non-Scale Victories for those that don't know.

This week I've had a couple of NSV's. One that I'm really proud of is my habit of tracking. I've been tracking just about everything on MyFitnessPal.com. (Except for this weekend. The wagon I was on crashed and burned this weekend. Just to paraphrase... Deer lease, beer, kid-less weekend.. that's really all I have to say about that.) But once I got back in town I dusted the wagon off and put it back together. I planned and prepped on Sunday and regained some sense of control.

I've been able to get up and work out twice this week so far. They've been pretty intense workouts too. I've been planning them by finding a workout on fitnessmagazine.com and pulling them up to review the night before so I'm ready to go in the morning and I don't have to think about it. I've also been incorporating Val's November Challenge workout as my warm-up. While I'm working out I've figured out if I just put on music instead of try to get caught up on the nation's events I'm a lot more focused and seem to get more out of my workout. Yeah ME!

I'm still taking Advocare MNS and that's going pretty well I think. I'm still drinking tons of water and really trying to get in my fruits and veggies errr-day. My hairdresser even said my skin was glowing! Whaaa? Maybe there's something to this whole eating right, drinking lots of water and taking care of yourself scam.

I'll weigh myself on Friday and see how I did this week. Honestly I'll be happy if I didn't gain after the gluttony of this weekend.

Cleanse and Weekend Update

Well, I did it! I finished the cleanse and jump started my healthy eating habits and I feel GRRRRRRRRREAT! I'm down 4.5 ell-bees! and almost 2inches in my waist! Holla!

(Yes, I'm aware  these are horrible pictures. Yes I'm standing on my bathtub. No I don't have another full length mirror. Yes I will enlist the help of my hubby for my next set of photos.)

It really wasn't that bad. I've been saying I want to get into the whole meal planning thing since I see that's how most successful weight loss peeps stay on track. This really helped me with that. I found myself eating almonds when I wanted something a little salty and reaching for fruit when I wanted something sweet. Off-plan I'd reach for chips and chocolate.

I was able to meal prep a lot on the weekend. I made South Beach quiche cups for breakfast and cooked extra veggies to add into my meals. I even got creative. One night I roasted carrots. I seasoned them like sweet potato fries and put them in the oven at 400 for about 15-20 minutes. They were pretty good. Did I say they were carrots?

Anywhooo, I was able to get better sleep which helped when I get up with the babe at 5 and I was able to do a few workouts which I plan on ramping up since the only one keeping me from working out now is myself. just do it fatty!  I'm sticking with the meal planning and prepping. I didn't really feel that deprived and that fiber drink made me feel full all day.

This weekend I also participated in my 1st race in a loooong time. It was a color run that I signed up for with a friend before I popped out the little monster. Back then I didn't know I was going to have a C-Sec or end up with pneumonia soon after which sidelined any type of training I might have considered attempting.

The run was so fun and kinda gave me the itch to get back out there. Kinda...

Let me off this Roller Coaster

Yesterday was a bad day. I was feeling down, down. Up until now on this cleanse I've been feeling pretty good. I've been planning my meals, I've been logging everything in My Fitness Pal and really felt like I had everything under control. Yesterday I hit a wall. I was feeling so bloated from all the fiber rich food I've been putting in my body that if some of it didn't get out soon I felt like I was going to explode.

I wasn't really craving anything off plan but I can't help but wonder if the detoxing I've been doing to kick my addiction to the white stuff was finally coming to a head. I mean, since I went out with a bang last week with donuts, French fries and chips was my body like  hey b*tch where's all the "good" stuff. You don't expect me to live on all these fruits, nuts and veggies forever do you? no one can live without a good dose of fried fat with a sprinkling of sugar?

I was also beating myself up for not working out. This weekend I took Colt on 2 walks and was able to get in a quick workout. Not bad right?

But once the workdays hit I slept in. I told myself to get up and when I didn't I thought oh well, you can still do it tonight when you get home. Psssshhh I guess I forgot I have a 2 month old. So for whatever reason I felt the whole day was wasted.

(On a completely vain note, my hair is a HOT MESS right now and I can't wait until I get it fixed on Thursday. So on top of beating myself up I also don't feel pretty.)

Last night I went to bed super early. Just being awake thinking about what a "failure" I've been lately depressed me. I know I need to make this whole health and fitness thing a life style change. I told myself last night to take it 1 day at a time and that tomorrow is a new day.

A new day indeed. Today I got up, fed the monster and got in a work out all before 6:30. And I'm feeling pretty good about myself. Today's gonna be a good day.

Milk Cow Blues

Well, my career as a milk cow is officially over. I'm kinda, sorta, not really sad about it. I mean, when I had Colt my initial goal was to do it at all. Then I wanted to do it while I was at home, then I wanted to do it until the end of the year. I guess my body has told me I've done enough.

I know people say you feel this magical bond with your baby when you breastfeed, and I did, but I also was doing it out of convenience. It's easy to pick him up and stick him on your boob when he's hungry. Much easier than waiting for a bottle of pumped milk to warm up at 2:00am.

I knew I'd just know when the time was right to quit. One day last week, I was trying to feed him and after an hour of both of us getting frustrated I had to supplement with formula. It's just not worth it anymore. He needs more to eat and I'm making less. It's more important to satisfy his needs than to make sure I make it to another "goal". I tried pumping at work and feeding him when I got home but it's almost like my body said it's over, you did what you had to do.

I mean, some people can't do it at all. Or their baby doesn't latch. Or they have a hard time with mastitis and clogged ducts. I didn't have any problems and he ate like a champ, I just finally quit producing. He was so little when he was born it's amazing to think that I was solely responsible for feeding him and helping him gain weight back and blow past his birth weight in the 2 months he was exclusively on breastmilk. A woman's body is truly amazing.

I'm using the last of my pumped milk to supplement the formula he's now on. I know it's the best thing for him now and that's what I have to keep in mind. I wasn't expecting to feel a little sad about it. I mean, he needed me and only me for a while there. Now anybody can pick up a bottle and feed him. It also frees us up some. All I have to pack now is formula and a bottle and not worry about keeping my breastmilk cold or making sure I can pump if we're going to be gone longer than a few hours. (I can also get my drink on and not worry about testing my milk... holla!)

It was nice will it lasted but it's nice that it's over too. It just reminds me of how fast time flies and how quickly life changes with this little guy. It's all worth it and I'm loving every minute of it.

Initial Thoughts on the Cleanse

So I’m a couple of days into the cleanse. So far, it isn’t too bad. I did a good job of planning and prepping this weekend. This is my first time having my whole week planned out so each day and I can just grab my food and go. I do sometimes have to call an audible and do my best when life happens. Like today, I ended up with the Boss at lunch and he wanted to have Italian. I ended up with some grilled chicken and veggies tossed in marinara sauce. Not bad right? (even though Fatty wanted chicken and pasta tossed in creamy gorgonzola cheesy goodness with maybe a sprinkle of bacon)
That fiber drink is rough! Whew! I mixed it with a little bit of Tropicana 50 OJ and it made it go down smoother. I also blended it with a little bit of ice so I could convince myself the consistency was from blended ice and not roots and tree bark or whatever is pulverized into the mix. I have to be honest; I was worried about all that fiber at once, especially after reading the title of Holly’s post. I get some pretty good action from a Fiber One Bar but so far it’s been ok. I was really pretty full all day but still ate my snacks and light lunch I had planned.

I like the Mango/Strawberry spark. I only had it before breakfast and since I don’t drink much caffeine during the day that was enough for me. I do have an emergency stash with me though.
Workouts have been non-existent. I was using the little monster as my alarm clock but fortunately he’s been sleeping until 6. So while I’m thankful for a little extra sleep, I’m going to have to set my alarm if I want to get my ass up and moving before he wakes up.

That’s it for now, nothing too exciting. I’ll check back in a couple of days.

All Aboard!

The little monster is 2 months old so I guess it's time I ditched my pregnancy cravings.  I didn't really crave anything specific but if I wanted it I had it. Like if I was driving around thinking Ya know what sounds good... an ice cream sandwich? I had to have it. Now, I have these cravings all the time for sugary, salty, spicy anything but most of the time I can convince my inner fatty that I really don't need it. When I was pregnant I gave myself the green light. Baby was hon-gray for some Hot Fries. Don't judge me!

Before I got prego, I loved to work out. I love boot-camp style/HIIT outdoor workouts and I really try to love running. I also liked to drink beer and eat so I can't say I was exactly fit and trim but I'm not a couch potato either. I worked out throughout most of the pregnancy until the end and ended up only gaining 23lbs. I've already lost it but I am no where near where I want to be. I'm softer and clothes fit tighter in different places. I need to get my ass back in gear.

I decided I'd try the Advocare 10-day Cleanse since I've heard so much about it from other bloggers. Little did I know Holly and Mel are starting it too. So, I've officially jumped on their crazy train and will blog my progress. Yikes!

My order was supposed to be here today but will be delivered tomorrow instead. BUT I'm already ahead. I've planned out all my meals, grocery shopped and prepped for the next 5 days. Who is this girl?! Since I had everything going I started on my meal plan today. So eating-wise, I'll be 2 days in before the official cleanse begins....hopefully.. that way if I get another ice cream sandwich itch, I can still scratch it. hold up fatty...

Since the little monster is getting up at or around 5 I'm going to start working out after I feed him. He's an alarm clock you can't snooze through.

Well, that's that. Here we go, all aboard the crazy train.

Work, Work, Work

Well, back to the grind. I can't believe it's been a month since I posted. Wait.. yes I can. Things are so cray right now. The little monster is 2 months old! Wowza! I haven't even updated anything about him. Here's a couple of  pics:

BAM! He's eating and sleeping and pooping and that's about it. Actually he's starting to smile a little.

He's the cutest little monster out there! I swear he changes every day.

And now I'm back at work... Boooo!

Actually I'm glad to be back...kinda. I loved staying home with him but I couldn't do it full time. I was getting a little cabin fever.

Introducing Colt Leif Boen!

I know it's been a while but I've been getting used to having a newborn at home. I'm finally ready to tell his birth story. Here goes!

At my weekly appointment, Dr H asked if I was ready to have this baby and like the badass I felt like I was I said HELL YEAH! Let's do this! He said ok, I'll get you scheduled for next week. Umm wait... what?? NEXT Week?!? Next thing I know, we're on the books to come in on Sunday night to start the induction process. YIKES!!

We were scheduled to go in at 5 on Sunday night. In my attempt to stall, I had one last picture taken.

I was excited, nervous, crying, laughing, nesting and everything in between. I'm pretty sure it was one of the longest days of my life.

We got in on Sunday night and got settled into our room. Don't I look relaxed??

After getting the IV started, taking a ton of blood and adjusting the monitors on me, the nurses came rushing back in. Colt's heart rate had decelerated. They flipped me a few times and everything was back to normal. They said I was having a few contractions but nothing big yet and he could have been on his cord. They said they'd continue to monitor it and explained to KB what the monitor print outs meant.

They put in a catheter to help me dilate. When it fell out at 1am I was successfully dilated to a 4. So we made progress before starting pitocin at 6am. Shortly after they started the pit, nurses came rushing in again. Colt's heart rate dipped again. This time they flipped me, started oxygen and had both me and KB pretty nervous. It was scary but we were both thankful the nurses were on top of everything. Dr H came in at 7 and said if it dipped again they were going to take him. No questions asked, I had a long way to go and he didn't seem to be tolerating contractions very well. Kb started watching the monitors and said "Hmm it looks like it's going down again". Sure enough nurses were back in and called the doc who said to get me into surgery STAT.

Wowza! Not at all what I expected. I really felt like I was mentally prepared for the labor and delivery process but I WAS NOT prepared for a C Section. I kept saying this wasn't part of the plan!!

They got me into surgery, put in the spinal, strapped me down and we were ready to go. While all that was going on, they gave KB his scrubs and told him to wait for them to come get him. As long as the spinal took ok, he could be in the room. He said it was about 10-15 minutes but felt like an hour. Dr H came rushing in and we got started. Dr H told KB he couldn't see anything behind the curtain and he needed to look over to see what all was going on. (Dr H and KB have become pretty close during this whole process) Luckily my friend who is a labor and delivery nurse was in there and could talk me through everything. Dr H said "There you are you little shit! Just like I suspected, the damn cord was wrapped around his neck!!"

At 9:32am on August 5, 2013, our son was here! Despite his rushed delivery, he was a healthy 5lbs 2 ounces 19 inches long! I couldn't wait to see him. I got stitched up and KB carried him to the recovery room.

We came home on Wednesday, August 7, and recovery has been pretty rough. But this post is long enough for now. I'll try to update more often. Just know he's perfect and we fall more in love everyday!

The Final Countdown

So I've been busy.. Shoot me. Here's a quick update... I'm still pregnant and it's July in Texas so it's hot as balls.

Actually, we're officially in the less than 1 month countdown to 'D' day. I can't believe it. As much as I was worried about everything, so far it really hasn't been that bad. I haven't been sick, I haven't put on a ton of weight (about 20ish pounds so far), energy level has been pretty decent considering my situation and I haven't had any wacky pregnancy symptoms like leakage from every orifice. Here's what's been going down since I last posted...

  • We have had a couple of showers. 1 was thrown by my good girlfriends and another by my sister in law.

The Girls:
Me & Mom:

KB and I are really pretty blessed to have such great friends and family around us.

  • I have to say, I'm about over this whole pregnancy business. While it hasn't been that bad it hasn't exactly been fun either. I'm ready to get on with my new normal. I don't know if you're ever really ready to have your baby home with you but I'm definitely ready to NOT be pregnant.
  • I have the best Husband ever. Kb has been pretty sweet throughout this. He's gone to every Dr appointment with me. Listened to me whine about whatever random pain I'm having or whatever fear I have. He's taken good care of me making sure I'm resting, or I'm cool or I have something cold to drink when we're out and about. He even came home last night and baked me an angel food cake. WHAT?!? Love him.
  • I'm ready to get my energy back. I hate going home to rest. I'm usually up and around doing something. Working on the house, working out (I REALLY miss having the energy to work out) but I'm trying to listen to my body and if it says rest I do it. Now's not the time to push myself or try to be a hero.
  • I'm obsessed with reading about labor and delivery. I read through all the horrible ones until I find one that the epidural worked, labor only lasted for a few hours and the baby was out in a couple of pushes. That's the story I'm going for.
  • I'm kinda in the zone. I'm doing prenatal yoga, listening to meditation and relaxation cds, I'm making lists for things I need at the hospital or at home, contacting insurance companies, the hospital, my daycare I've set up, the pediatrician and whoever else needs to know our little man will be here soon.
Guess that's all I've got for now. Stay tuned and keep cool.

Summer in Texas

Remember when I said people liked to remind me how HOT I'll be 9 months pregnant... in Texas.. in July. My dog, Miss Rio, has given me a pretty good solution to beating the Texas heat. This is probably what I'm going to feel like doing soon...

Try and stay cool everyone!

Random Update and Nursery Pics

Hey-yo! It's been a while and I've been a total slacker. Bur really, I haven't had much going on. I'm still pregnant and feel like I'm getting bigger by the minute and most days I feel great! A 10 on a scale of 1-10. But on days I don't, I feel like 2. There really isn't an in between.

I'm drinking water like it's my job so that's helping keep swelling at bay but holy hell it's starting to get hot here. Not to mention everyone wants to remind me how hot I'll be 9 months pregnant... in July... in Texas. Thanks for the PSA people. I've had a lot of people tell me well intended comments that don't come off that.. great. Such as...
  • Wow Jenn, from the back you don't even look pregnant, I mean, your butt hasn't gotten any bigger.  - Umm BIGGER??!?!
  • Wow Jenn, you haven't even swelled up... yet
  • The boss man said Jenn, you haven't gained near as much weight as I thought you would - What? did you think this would be a time for me to be a fatty free for all? Remember how paranoid I was at gaining too much weight?
  • This is a good one from the Hubs we were laying down and he rubbed my belly and sweetly said it still doesn't even feel that big. When I got up he said "whoa! I mean it's OUT there just when you're laying down it doesn't seem THAT big"
  • His friends have also called to ask if I was HUGE yet. I swear I could start my own sensitivity training class.
But all in all I guess I'm doing pretty good. Nothing whacky has happened so far and all my tests have come back ok.

Showers are starting up, we have 2 this month. One given by my girlfriends for close friends another given by the Aunts-to-Be for family.

We've been given a few things here and there already. Kb was bringing some clothes into the nursery and he said "If feels so weird carrying these little bitty clothes down the hall" I said wait til you're carrying your baby boy in those little bitty clothes down the hall.

I'm in this weird time where I'm so ready to NOT BE PREGNANT but at the same time I'm not quite ready for him to be here. Are you ever really ready though?

Last weekend Mom and I worked on the nursery while Kb was in a fishing tournament. He was very impressed with the work we did. I think it turned out pretty cute too. Here's a sneak peak..

Yep, Baby Boen's name is Colt. More on the rest of his name later.

We've been throwing it around and have decided this is it. I've been yelling it around the house to see how it bounces off the walls when he's in trouble and Kb's been trying it out on the PA system. "COLT BOEN on the tackle!!" or "COLT BOEN at Center Field!!" Sounds good right?

Mother's Day 2013

Everyone is doing a mother's day recap post. Guess I'll hop on that train..

The Saturday before Mother's Day Kb and I host a Mother's Day dinner party. (We also host one for Father's day) We invite my parents, his parents, my brother and his family, his sister, his best friend and his family. Barnes lives out of town but his parents are here and Kb and Barnes grew up together so it's fitting that we involve them too. This year we decided to do a shrimp and crab leg boil in the afternoon and it was wonderful!

I even made Sangria for our mommas. Hear me, Sangria is my go-to summer drink so the sacrifice I made by making this without partaking should be gift enough.

The weather was beautiful. After filling our guts on shrimp, crab legs and all the trimmings we sat outside and had homemade ice cream and devils food chocolate cake. Calories on Mother's Day are like the ones on your birthday... They don't count.

My mom and mom-in-law both gave me sweet cards for my 1st Mother's Day. I thought Aww, I'm going to put these in baby boy's baby book. Then Kb came through with his card.

Classic, I love it ,but I'm not looking forward to the day when I have to explain what knocked up means.

Happy Mother's Day Everyone!

You're having a baby shower?? in a bar???

Yes, this is what happens when a man throws a baby shower. Our friend D asked us a couple of months ago if he could throw us a diaper party. Of course! Just let us know what you need from us. Fast forward a month and a half and mom's asking about the shower and if it was still going on. I guess so, we haven't heard anything. He hasn't even asked who we wanted to invite or get addresses from us. We talk to Barnes (Kb's bestie) last weekend at LJT and he mentioned coming in town for it. Kb said I don't even know if it's still on. He said, oh yeah, it's on. It's all over Facebook (which we don't have) it's at 3 at your dad's bar. To which Kb's dad replied "the bar doesn't open til 4" Ohhhh--kayy then.

As Kb starts talking to some of his friends, none of them are D by the way, he finds out D has recruited them to help him and they're asking Kb about finalizing everything. What time, how many and all that. We still don't have a clue what's going on or when we're supposed to be there.

So if you're keeping score here goes..
  • The party is scheduled to be at a bar... before it opens
  • I don't know who all of OUR friends and family he invited
  • Guests have been recruited to bring stuff for the party
  • Did I mention it's at a bar, where I can't drink, but my hubs will probably get snockered since he has a designated driver?
A couple of days before the party, an update goes out on Facebook that the party time start has changed to 6. Fantastic, someone had to call and tell us.

We get to the party on Saturday and there's brisket and the fixin's. Most fixin's provided by guests and then people start to arrive. Actually the guys from the couples that we know show up with diapers in hand. I asked where their wives were and they said "Uh, we thought it was guys only..." Fabulous.

It turned out ok and was a fun night, just kind of a wreck getting it together. Some of my girlfriends were there and that was nice. We got mostly diapers and a couple of other gifts. Most of the diapers were just added to the pile with no cards to know who they came from so I'm not sure who to send thank yous to. Kb sent out a few texts to some of our friends that he knew were there and expressed our appreciation. Hopefully that will do, I'm not real sure the etiquette on a party like this. Here's a pic of us at the party and a picture of our haul at the house afterwards.

Kid-less Kb and Jenn look at this and think WOW that's a LOT of diapers, they'll last FOREVER! Our friends that know better tell us it's a good start. Yikes!

Also, if you take a close look you'll see Baby Boy got his first gun at the party. Now I just have to keep Dad from playing with it and put a tag on it that says DO NOT OPEN TIL 2018!!

Is there a medal for that?

I really should get a medal after this weekend. Or at least some kind of recognition. This weekend consisted of me, 6 months pregnant, camping, attending an outdoor all day music venue with 40,000 wasted idiots. They may not ALL have been wasted idiots but there was plenty of beer around, just none for me. If you know me, you know I love to sit outside, with a cold beer, listening to live music. No beer and a fuse that gets shorter by the day meant I thought this was going to be pretty rough.

Last week was the Larry Joe Taylor Fest (LJT) in Stephenville. This is our 4th trip to LJT and 2nd in a row. We took off one year when we got married. It's a week long drunk fest with almost every Texas Country / Red Dirt music act you can think of.

Bands start at noon and it's one after the other until midnight. It's in the middle of a HUGE pasture and everyone brings campers, busses, tents and some just bring a sleeping bag in the bed of their truck. At least that's what the young kids do. My idea of "camping" still has to have an A/C and a flushing toilet.

We usually try to get there on Thursday sometime and then stay until Sunday. Kb took the bus (motorhome) and set up on Thursday and since I'm really trying to save my PTO for when Baby 'B' gets here (actually, I knew I could only handle the drunks in limited doses so I was putting it off) I opted to stay and work on Friday and head there Friday afterwork with a few of the girls that also had to work. Somebody's got to work around here.

Good Lord you should have seen the people. The average age is probably 18-25. Clothes are clearly an option and they must have confiscated sunscreen at the gate. Anything can be made a cooler or wagon to haul food and booze and the kids are really getting creative with ways to comsume alcohol. We used to just have keg stands and beer bongs. At the most we may have made jello shots. Now they're walking around with soaked gummy bears, multi funneled beer bongs wtih a trough at the top, squirt guns, bags of wine and whatever homemade hooch they can find on Pinterest.

We parked under an oak tree with all the other old folks and watched the lazy river of drunks stumbling back and forth from the pit to their respective camp sites. Entertainment for hours I'm telling you. I looked around and thought Whew! I sure am glad I don't have to worry about a daughter stumbling around here all slutted up wearing next to nothing, drunk off her underage ass with boys drooling over all her goods on display. Then I thought OMG I have to worry about having one of the wasted idiot boys walking around here in little more than his jock strap with a beer bong and soaked gummy bears trying to get girls drunk so they'll get a peep show. I don't know what's worse!?!?

For the most part I think I handled it pretty well. Saturday there was a chili and bean cook-off, which I entered so that kept me pretty busy.

Out of 64 entries, I didn't win or even place, which tells you people don't know good chili when they taste it. Our crew didn't have a problem with it.

They had a live auction, a silent auction and passed the hat to raise money for West. They raised over $50,000 in an afternoon. It was awesome to see the support.

Saturday afternoon it was back out to the oak tree chasing the shade and listened to the best type of music around. I'm so proud of Kb, he was a perfect gentleman. He made sure I was comfortable, always had water and stayed by my side the whole time. I'm so proud of him.

He even tried to convince me we could bring Baby 'B' next year by pointing out those that had a little one under the shade. Umm, that's a big fat NEGATIVE Ghost Rider, not a chance.

Baby Showers? O My!

Friends and family are starting to schedule showers. This scares the shit out of me for 2 reasons..

1 - Holy CRAP! I'm close enough to the end of this thing to have a shower, like with gifts and stuff for a baby that will be here in a few months. Wait... someone's going to trust me with a BABY in a few months!?!?!?

2 - I get anxiety when I even think about registering. What if I register for things I don't need? What if I don't register for things that I do need. Can't showers just be a time when people bring you things  you can't live without. I feel like there's so much stuff it's easy to get a ton of stuff you won't use. But what if there's something out there that would be a life saver if I had it. There are so many different brands and types of baby things. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT'S WHAT?

Kb and I made our first attempt at registering at Tar-jay. We ended up in an aisle with another clueless couple. I could tell the guy was frustrated and the girl looked like she was going to cry. I didn't want that to be us. We picked out a few things then our gun quit working. We took that as a cue to quit for the day and go get something to eat. Story of my pregnant life, when in doubt...eat. I figure I can do some cleanup and register for a lot of stuff online.

On a lighter note, we had a good weekend. Kb, me and Baby B went to our first Texas Ranger game of the season. Which they won BTDubs...

Toward the end of the game it got pretty exciting so I was jumping up and down and Baby 'B' started moving around. He's got to be a sport fan to put up with us.

And I'm pretty sure we caught the Lake Waco Record Black Crappie (Pronounced croppy for those out of the know) I'll have to be sure and tell him about it when he's older.

Confession Time

Confession #1: I've been a bad blogger. I thought with this pregnancy I'd have so much to say but in the words of my OB I'm fortunately "having a 'boring' pregnancy". I haven't been sick, I haven't had any crazy cravings, I don't have any weird pains to speak of, hair isn't popping up in strange places, the ultrasound showed a healthy baby boy who is right on track.

Confession #2: I'm OBSESSED with other pregnant women. When I was in Babies R Us the other day I was fascinated with all the pregnant women in there in all their various stages. I started comparing myself to them. Do I look like that? Will I look like THAT? I can't get enough of pregnant bloggers and pregnant celebrities. It's crazy that no matter where you are in life or what you do if you're going to have a baby, you have to be pregnant, unless you adopt or surrogate of course, but someone has to be pregnant for 9 months. actually it's 10 but who's counting. I find myself wondering about their cravings and what their pregnancy is like.

Confession #3: I'm scared to death to be a parent and I'm afraid I have no idea what I'm doing. When I'm looking around obsessing about other pregnant women I find myself looking at moms of LOs. Some of them I think, wow, if they can do it I can too. I mean, women, a lot younger than me with a lot less education and life experience have had their children and they've been fine. So I can do it too right? My friends have repeatedly told me, Jenn don't worry so much. It's actually pretty crazy how your instinct kicks in. I promise you'll be fine. I told a friend about my anxiety about being around a newborn and how I haven't had that much practice with one. She said something that really hit home "My son's going to be 13 this year, I don't have any practice with a teenager. I'm STILL learning as I go" I think I'm just putting too much pressure on myself to be "perfect" when I really need to just remember to do the best I can and trust my instincts. Things are going to go wrong and there are going to be times where I don't know what to do but I just have to learn from everything.

Confession #4: I've been really slacking on my workouts. It's not that I go home and park my ass on the couch, we're just really busy. Right now it's so pretty outside we've been going fishing almost every night. I love that time with my husband and know this time next year we'll have a little one and maybe we can't go and do like we do now so I'm savoring every moment. For our anniversary this week, we made sandwiches and had a sunset picnic on the boat. It was peaceful and lovely.

Confession #5: I'm up 5lbs in the past month.  I'm pretty sure I put on 5 pounds last week when we were in Galveston for a work conference. We entertained clients everynight. Momma ate really well. My favorite was Gaido's one night which was AMAZING. (Thanks for the suggestions Crissy!) I told my Dr this when he told me to "pull it back" a little. He said he appreciated my honesty since most women just tell him "Shut up doc, Momma hon-gray" Also confession #4 doesn't help.

Confession #6: I'm putting off the nursery. I guess I think no nursery, no baby. Like he's just going to wait for his room to be finished before he makes his appearance. For some reason I'm having a hard time getting it together. I've picked out the bedding which is super cute I think, but that's as far as I've gone. Friends and family are putting showers together so I guess we need to get registered somewhere. I don't have a clue what all I need. While I've finally embraced my pregancy now I'm having trouble accepting it and getting my shit togehter. It'll happen I guess.

Confession #7: I can't stop reading about pregnancy. I'm one of those people that like to be informed. I want to know if whatever I'm experiencing is normal. I'm NOT one of those people who won't go outside because the sun causes skin cancer. I'm not a hypochondriac I just like to be "in the know". I've talked to my Dr about being honest with me. I'm a tough broad and I know I can handle the truth. If somehing's going to suck, let me know it's going to suck and what we can do to make it suck less. Now that I'm over the 1/2-way point I'm reading about labor and deliveries. I'll admit I'm afraid of the unknown but most of what I've read is people saying it's not as bad as they thought. Sure there are those horror stories out there and I understand that ANYTHING can happen so I'm just taking everything in and hoping for the best. One of my favorite things I've read is when a couple were recounting their son's birth story and the wife said "I can't believe we remember the same day so differently. I don't remember it being that bad but he says he doesn't know if he can go through it again" I think it's funny how God gives moms mom-nesia about the pain and suffering of childbirth but not dads. Eve may be getting "punished" for eating that apple but joke's on you Adam. HA! Anywhoo..

Well, that's it for now. No name yet, we've got a solid maybe but we're still test driving it to see if it sticks.

What's in a name??

It happened... my first mini-meltdown. I say first because I know there has to be a lot more where this one came from. What was it over?? Picking a name for Baby 'B'. Here's how it went down...

Kb showed me a website he was looking at that had EVERY.POSSIBLE.NAME.IMAGINABLE. I'm talking from Swahili to Hawaiian to Old English and everything in between. It had origin and meaning behind the names. I thought hmmm, let me take a look-see. What did I find?? NOTHING, NADA, ZIP that stood out to me. I put it down and we started watching Duck Dynasty. The guys were on there talking about "my daughter, Sadie" "my son John Luke" then the convo turned into something like this..

me: HOW DID THEY KNOW?

Kb: Know what?

me: *cue tears* What they were going to name their kids?/I can't pick out colors for his room much less a name?/Most people probably have a name picked out before they even get pregnant! Not me! I don't have one/Maybe I'm not ready?/I'm a bad mom already!/WHAAAHAAA!

Kb: Babe, this is supposed to be fun. We don't have to decide on a name today...

me:*cue ugly cry* But if I had to I couldn't!/I want him to have a cool name but not too cool that it's too trendy/What if we tell people his name and someone says that's a fat kids name or I had a dog named .../This is too hard!!

Kb: You're getting upset for no reason, we have plenty of time

me: *now I'm mad 'cause he doesn't "get" it* Ya' know, you're being really ungrateful. This is the first time I've really had a meltdown I could have been doing this the whole time. Let me have my MOMENT!

...and scene

Soon after that we went to bed. I apologized the next day for acting like an ass and calmed down a bit. I know we have time but I really am taking this seriously. I had a few girl names picked out that I really liked but no boy names. Actually, the only boy name I've ever thought about was my Mom's maiden name... Owen. I love it. But sadly I gave it up when I married a Boen. Owen Boen? you just can't do that to a kid. He'd hate me for sure.

Baby 'B' is a....

BOY! We're so excited! There was no denying it when we went for the ultrasound. Kb said YES! and the look on his face was priceless. When we saw it I said Is that a... the tech said, "yes that's his penis and testicles" I said yeah, it looks like a sack. Well, son, you mom is a math/computer nerd, not an anatomy major.

The tech was great at telling us what she was doing the whole time. Whether it was taking measurements of his head and abdomen, to looking for fluid where it was supposed to be and making sure it wasn't where it wasn't supposed to be. She got a great shot of all 4 chambers of his little heart beating away. We counted all his fingers and toes. She said his brain looks great too.

Then she turned on the WOW factor, we got to see him in 3D/4D. She warned us he'd look a little alien-ish but assured us that's why we do the normal ultrasound first to make sure everything's there. All I can say is WOW, it was pretty amazing to see him moving around. When we first looked at him he was holding his feet in his hands in a pike style diving position. A flexible little dude. He opened up his hands and we could see all his fingers fan out. When the Dr came in the door made a loud noise and he picked his head up to react to it. IN-CREDIBLE! I could have watched it all day.

When we left we were so excited talking about our son but then we paused a minute and said but... that means it isn't a girl?? and felt a twinge of disappointment. We decided we would have felt the same either way. If it was a girl, we'd be disappointed it wasn't a boy. We told everyone we didn't care what Baby 'B' was but now I think we really know in our hearts that was the case.

After the Dr appointment we had a little while to come up with a cool way to tell our parents. Here's what we did.

Cute huh? (yes that's a pitcher of beer in the background) As a plus we had all the pink, yellow and white Whopper Robin's Eggs left over for us to eat!

Our parents were excited but Kb's mom thought it was a girl and I think my mom was secretly hoping for a girl since my brother has a boy. I tried to warn mom though and told her the Boen's make a lot of boys.

It was a great day and Kb and I are still on Cloud 9 and can't wait for the little bugger to be here. Which according to my app will be in....20 WEEKS!!

Camo's Neutral Right?

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, there's just not a whole lot going on...

We're starting to get into some pretty exciting territory though.. we find out next week if Baby B is a boy or girl! We're so excited.

Personally I think it's a boy, at least that's the way I've been referring to it. Call it him and he and all that. Kb thinks it's a girl. Actually, I think he's just telling himself that so he's ok if it actually is a girl when he's secretly hoping for a boy.

I think he's afraid of a girl. Righly so. I'm a Daddy's girl, and a Grandaddy's girl and PawPaw's girl, the men in my life didn't stand a chance. I could get away with anything when I was with them. Kb would be a softie with a little girl too. You know what they say, the bigger they are the harder they fall. All it's going to take is a sweet little girl to look him in the eyes and ask Dad-deee for something then bam! he's toast.

We really don't care either way. We're both outsoors-y and are always on the move, either one would fit in perfectly. I think I'm a pretty good mix of girly-girl and tom-boy. I wasn't when I was little, I was put up on a pink pedestal never to get dirty. When I grew up I found out I like getting dirty just as much as I like cleaning up and getting all dressed up with pretty makeup and beautiful shoes. I mean, can you imagine us at the deer lease with a little girl in this..

A boy would be so much fun too. I hear all kinds of great stories about Kb when he was a kid hanging out with his Dad and Grandaddy, fishing and hunting. Kb would make a great baseball coach. Hopefully our kid gets his coordination and sporty-ness. If they get mine he/she might end up a bench warmer, but they'll be great at math and musically talented.

Either way, we're really excited and will find out Monday afternoon. I really wanted to do a great gender reveal party but Kb can't keep a secret so that ain't gonna happen.

Bassmaster 2013

Last weekend we went to the "Superbowl of Bass Fishing" aka Bassmasters.

Are you jealous yet?

We loaded up the in-laws bus and headed to Tulsa. There were 10 of us and the plan was to take the bus and 2 trucks. We ended up with 10 people the bus and 1 truck. A friend had planned on taking his truck for the past year we've had this planned but decided we didn't need it at the last minute. Do the math there.. we have a 40 foot bus that really can't maneuver too well in the downtown area and 1 truck to shuttle all 10 of us around. Brilliant.

3 hours in and everyone's making drinks and playing loud music, we're a rolling party! I'm of course miserable and everyone is on my nerves. I was a bear last week and anxiety was at an all time high so being locked up with drunk idiots really wasn't on my top 10 list. At that point it wasn't on my top 100 list.

Anywhoo.. we get to Tulsa and it's cold. And the heater in the 1 truck we have doesn't work. Nice. This trip is just getting better. The guys get up to go to the launch, yes at 17deg people lineup along the banks of a lake 2 hours away to watch professional anglers take off. Did I go? you ask.. Umm Hell no. The 5 guys loaded up in the truck with no heat and had to use hand warmers to remove the ice that was forming inside the truck from condensation.

After that we went to the expo. They have all the latest and greatest fishing stuff that my husband and the other guys just had to have. They were like kids in a toy store. I can't imagine the guys walking around with us at a bridal or baby expo.

We did see the Lombardi trophy of bass fishing...

And the World Record Bass

Then we went to the weigh in. Which is an event. Music, lights, a ton of people and they kept the rednecks satisfied with these..

I was disappointed with the winner though, he wasn't as excited as I'd hoped. He looked like he had somewhere else to be. Can you imaging a pitcher winning the world series and just walking off the mound. That's about what it looked like. Oh well..

I survived and didn't kill anyone.  It was a long trip and Kb asked what we were going to do next year "I guess we'll just bring the kid" In my best mom voice that everyone knows means "no" I said We'll see babe, we'll see.

My Body isn't My Own Anymore

When did my body become public property?

Since becoming pregnant, I feel like my body isn't my own anymore. Everyone seems to be looking for my bump. Like I walk into a room and I feel like people are looking me up and down to see what's changed. I think I can see a litttle bump, Jenn. No shit, I'm almost 4 months along, it has to go somewhere. Come here let me touch it. No, creeper. Is it hard yet? I feel like a bloated mess, and since I've cut back on the brewskis, I guess it's harder than my gut used to be.

Or they say things like Jenn, you look great, looks like you're keeping your weight in check . Ummm..Have you been looking at my weight all along and just keeping comments to yourself? Why do you think you can tell me them now? Why didn't you tell me before, geez Jenn, those pants are looking tight, check out that muffin top, that butt is getting huge!  Because it isn't appropriate, that's why! I'm put myself under enough pressure about gaining too much weight, I don't need to worry about what everyone else thinks too.

Weight isn't the only thing people think they can talk about. Jenn, your boobs are gonna be HUGE! Why are you looking or thinking about my boobs people? It's like women that have kids wait patiently for one of their friends to get pregnant and then take that as their cue to spill every single detail of pregnancy. I'm getting bombarded with gross and disgusting tales of pregnancies and childbirth. Any time I try and mention something about being pregnant they interrupt to tell me their story. It's like they have to "top" me. So if I say, “gosh I’m tired today”, toppers come back with , “oh you’ve got it easy I was tired all the time and sick everyday, I had to work 12 hours a day on my feet, you should have seen how swollen my feet were, I had unconrollable gas, wait till that baby starts doing flip flops in your belly, one of my kids got on a nerve in my hip and I didn't sleep for 2 months” blah blah blah.

I get it, pregnancy is a beautiful, miraculous event that somehows binds us women together in a sorority of sorts and we all can't wait to tell our stories. Just please, keep some of the more graphic details to yourself. Let me figure things out on my own, who knows maybe mine won't be so bad. Or maybe it will be a lot worse than yours, at least that's what I'll think and tell the next victim. MWAHAHAHAHA!!

Until then, keep your hands off my belly people...

Not-So-Empty Nest

Kb and I are dog people. We had 2 dogs for 15 years that passed away last summer within 3 days of each other. It was tragic and a really bad few days in the Boen household. After they passed, my first reaction was I'm not going to let myself get this close to a dog again...ever . Kb and I were a mess. Over dogs, I haven't been that upset over people, much less DOGS?!?! But they were more than dogs, they were part of our family, our routine. They went to bed with us (not in our bed but to their own), got up with us, they knew their place. They didn't get on the couch, they didn't beg for food, they didn't get into the trash, they didn't shit in the house, they were perfect. Except they were old, 1 was deaf, 1 had a non-existent thyroid and was dependent on meds, and they didn't move too well.

I knew last year was going to be our last with Mr Remy Dog and was halfway preparing myself.

He lost interest in food and slept a lot but was still so happy to see us when we got home. I think Kb was just wanting to come home to him asleep in the back yard. But Fancy Chancey, not to be out done, went first and out of nowhere.

We all woke up and she was very lethargic, I knew something was wrong so off to the vet we went. They found a large mass in her abdomen that was infected. The most non-invasive thing to do was start antibiotics and see if that helped. After a day at the vet we went to check on her and she passed while we were there. You could have knocked me over with a feather. But was I was comforted by the fact that it was like she waited on us to say good-bye. It was a Thursday. We went home a blubbering, crying, shocked, mess. Remy didn't eat again and was ready to go too. The following Sunday we took him and put him to sleep. I guess he waited on her. They were truly like brother and sister, they couldn't stand to be around each other and couldn't stand to be apart.

So what did we do after that?? We grieved for a few months, decided our house was empty and we ended up with these 2 stinkers.

I'll go in to their story later. And now we have a little one on the way. I guess our nest won't be empty again for a while.
